Why does this bother me? - Armbrace Related
Im currently in the process of buying up Gems for a shield and im going to have to do a DoA mission to get to the trader. But im also a bit lazy and if this guy wants to trade I wouldnt mind saving a bit of time.
The thing is what is his angle? Is it profitable to trade an armbrace for gems and then sell the gems or could he be a duper trying to offload his illgotten gains?
If he is a duper would anet find out if i traded for his armbrace then traded it for a shield?
I think it might be dodgy as he was there a couple nights ago saying the same thing...
Decisions, decisions...

Didn't they deal with all of the methods of duping already? I thought it was just a bug that allowed you to do it that got fixed a while back.

while they did patch the exploit, i doubt they deleted all of the armbraces that were duped. i know for a fact that they couldn't scan for duped items because when i sent in the method on how the exploit worked so it could get patched, the items that i had tested with (a red dye, a jade armor, and a zehlenun's bow), were not deleted.
the only way they would be able to find them all is if they dug through every transaction from the banned players. ever hear about the theory of six degrees of separation (the idea that everyone in the world is linked within 6 associates) or that almost all US money has some trace of cocaine on it from drug smugglers and dealers? anet would face something similar as a lot of the armbraces were disseminated out, traded in for items, etc.

selling 15 gemsets does turn in a bit more proffit than selling 1 armbrace,altho i would prefer selling 1 armbrace than 15 gemsets because not many people buy gemsets in bulks

The guy could also be an idiot, since most people trade 16 gemsets for an Ambrace.

I thought it was obvious. Gem Sets are now worth more than Armbraces individually. Not by much but it's still more.

yeah either he's laundering his duped armbraces, or it's legit and he'd rather have coffers or gemsets
personally if I had 15 gemsets, I'd rather just turn it into a trader so I knew my armbrace was legit

I think he deserves some credit for spelling 'armbrace' properly. I'm tired of ambrances, ambraces, armbrances, embraces etc. I moan too much.
On topic, he probably wanted to gamble with scamboxes in the hope of getting a Mallyx or armbrace. I don't think it's anything sinister.

1) He's bad at the game and meant '16' gemsets
2) He's going to be sitting in trade district selling other stuff anyway, and prefers the slightly higher expected profit from gemsets (since his time price is zero)
3) He prefers gambling to sure things
4) He has hacked the game and can tell which coffers have good things and which don't
I think that sums up the possible scenarios. I choose to doubt the dupe hypothesis; that was a looooong time ago.

Gemsets = 12-13k ea (15 = 180k-195k)
Armbrace = 150-170k ea
Sure you go through a lot of trouble to make profit and it doesn't make sense to most of us... but then there's those who buy lockpicks from special merchants for 1.2k ea and resell for 1.25k ea

If someone is stupid enough to trade 16 gemsets for an armbrace, they deserve to lose their stuff. It's 15 gemsets for the armbrace collector in GoA.

Buy enough coffers and the gamble pays off with the possibility of multiple armbraces or a mallyx.
